Fresh Air Sessions

A number of bands have played live in our studio, we call these the Fresh Air Sessions - whether by the Music Team or not! No matter how big, we will endeavour to save the recording and archive it here. If you have recordings of your own, please make a record of it here, and send a digital copy, if you have one, to our technical team who will archive it on our site, and it will be given pride of place in the fresh air playout system. Please make a note of the song, the artist, the date and show it was on if applicable.

Please indicate for each the availability of the session. say, for example recorded (track has been recorded), sourced (someone knows where the track is), available (track is uploaded onto megatron and ready to play), lost (copy unknown).

If you have a copy and want it uploaded into the system, please e-mail the file to music@freshair.org.uk.

February

• Loch Awe were the first guest of 2012 for In Session, playing tracks from their upcoming debut album 11/02/12 :Christian

March

• Zed Penguin played a feedback-fueled session for Fresh Air and offered great conversation for the In Session team 03/03/12 :Christian

• BluesWater Collective came into Studio 1 for Home of the Blues session on Tuesday 6th of March, to be broadcast alongside interviews with band members on Thursday 15th of March here. :JY

• French Wives travelled to Fresh Air all the way from Glasgow for the opportunity to promote their 'Feel Safe Small' EP 10/2/11 :Brian

• Enfant Bastard mixed some of his glitch, breakcore and chiptune tracks live in studio 2 for us 14/2/11 :Brian

May

• Death Trap City discuss their upcoming single 'Ignite'/'Fight or Fall', play a couple of acoustic tunes, 8/5/11 :Myke

• Randolph's Leap recorded a session for Found In Sound in one of Electric Circus's karaoke rooms including a live version of their latest single Counting Sheep/Deep Blue Sea 17/8/11 :Brian

• Bear Bones with studio 2 out of use Avalanche Records kindly let us record frontman Ben Harrison doing an acoustic set for Found In Sound 16/10/11 :Brian
• The Last September Live in session on The HP Show 30/10/11 :Hp

November

• Esperi arrived with bells on (literally) and played some new and old songs in between chats with In Session 05/11/11 :Christian
• Michael MacFarlane made his radio début playing Done For and Waltz on The HP Show 06/11/11 :HP
• Johnny Downie played All Through the Night, Long Walk Home and Tuesday 9/11/10 :Myke
• Broken Records Jamie Sutherland came in to play some songs and chat with In Session 12/11/11 :Christian
• The Little Birds the whole band came in to the Fresh Air studio and played Strange Bait and Dragonfly on The HP Show 13/11/11 :HP
• The Last Battle Scott and Jonathan came in to chat and record some songs with new member Jonathan's violin backing with In Session 19/11/11 :Christian
• The Twilight Sad came into the studio to play some new tracks and talk to Brian and Lily for a Found in Sound and In Session collaboration 16/11/11 :Christian
• I Build Collapsible Mountains dropped by to play some music from his new album for In Session as well as reveal news about the future of The Gothenburg Address 26/11/11 :Christian
• TJ Muller & the Dixie Six performing the first Live set for Tim Beardmore Grey's Home of the Blues. This was the first time Studio 1 had been home to a 7 man group + horn section, to our knowledge. :JY
• Mike MacFarlane returned to the Fresh Air studios with two more live session tracks for Live From The Latin Quarter 26/11/11 :LFTL¼

• The Japanese War Effort came into the studio to play some of his electronic set and plug his latest split release with Field Mouse and Gerry Loves Xmas 2011 2/12/11 :Brian
• There Will Be Fireworks came out of hiding and graced the Fresh Air studio for the first time to play some long-awaited new material for In Session 03/12/11 :Christian
• Broken Records played Alekko and A Warning on The HP Show 04/12/11 :HP
• Stanley Odd : The Edinburgh Hip Hop group played striped back versions The Day I Went Deaf and Winter of Discontent live on The HP Show 11/12/11 :HP

• Amanda Palmer on FreshFringe 10/9/11 - Myke

2010

October

• Ross Clark of Three Blind Wolves - I asked Ross to come into the studio to record a few acoustic tracks and an interview for the demo for my show Found In Sound, 13/10/10 :Brian

November

• Over The Wall - Ben and Gav came into studio 2 with an array of keyboards, trumpets and guitars to create their electro-folk sounds, 13/11/10 :Brian
• The Last Battle - Scott and Arwen from the band popped into the music team show to promote a gig at Cabaret Voltaire that night, which just so happened to be my first gig with the band, 18/11/10 :Brian

December

• Yahweh - The band spent a few hours chatting and recording some new tracks in studio 2, 3/12/10 :Brian
• Loch Awe - After only 2 gigs the Edinburgh then-4 piece visited studio 2 to record a mix of new tracks and songs from their debut album Artificial Life From A Digital Sea, 2/12/10 :Brian

FreshFringe

• The Tiger Lillies - I'm A Swine - I was so lucky to be sat alone with the tiger Lillies in the studio, as out of nowhere they begun to play on a mismatch of instruments, including a saw, and created one of my favourite Fresh Air memories of all time! If only I can find it somewhere... :Hitch available

• White Heath - played both Gigi and Election Day - for Ed Jupp in the studio as 17 Seconds... :Hitch available

• Loretta Maine - a comedian posing as a singer - sung a song about the record industry, live. available
• MJ Hibbert - ' Dinosaur Planet ' available
• Barbershoppera - ' Doobie-Do-Doomsday ' available

2009

• Tinashe - ' Mayday ' played on Emma Segal's Freshly Squeezed. recorded and sourced (file not radio quality)

Fresh Fringe

• The Magnets 6-piece accapella group sung Lady Gaga's 'Pokerface' available

March

• Lewis Gibson live session for "This Is Music" with HP Neilson 09/03/07

2006

November

• William Douglas played two songs for "This Is Music" hosted by HP Neilson 21/11/06 :HP
• Daniel McGeever song-smith and front man of now de-funked Edinburgh rock band Alfonzo played a few of his own compositions on HP Neilson's "This Is Music" show on 28/11/06 :HP
• Anna Massie was interviewed on the 19th Nov. on Fresh Folk and played a live session. This is still available in the Fresh Folk Downloads

December

• Eagleowl who at the time were just a 3-piece (they now have as many as 6 musicians on stage at gigs now) made their radio début on "This Is Music" with HP Neilson 12/12/06 :HP

Future Projects

It is intended that at somepoint we might collate these songs into an digital-only album to be released as a fundraiser for Fresh Air. If at all possible, ask any artists if recording in the studio to sign one of our Release Forms.

Release Form

A simple legal document was drafted to help our legal situation in regard to live recordings, which should be available on hand in the studio.
