Fresh Air's News Team currently present one hour long flagship News Show per week, as well as providing short bulletins to the presenters of the weekday Live @ 5 shows. The stories covered by the News Team are always regarding issues relevant to students at Edinburgh's universities, and national issues which will also have an impact on students here.

Aims

We aim to provide a student's perspective on the news, opening the studio up for a bit of debate among the team, as well as having live guests, interviews, vox pops and other features. We look to cover serious stories in depth, getting as many perspectives as possible, as well as keeping students up-to-date with shorter pieces throughout the week.

Examples of What We Do

In the year 2011/2012, we have done a number of things, including but not limited to:

  • interviewing Labour MP David Miliband
  • interviewing SNP MSP Humza Yousaf
  • covering the tuition fees protests in Edinburgh and London
  • highlighting issues regarding study space in the library, and the shortening of the summer exam timetable
  • raising awareness about Edinburgh University's disability service
  • investigating the effects of the current financial climate on smaller departments in the university
  • opening up discussions with students on topics such as Scottish indepedence
